NFL Recap: Denver Narrowly Beat Struggling Jets in Low-Scoring Battle
During a defensive struggle on Sunday, the Denver Broncos clinched a close victory over the winless New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz provided the game-winning decisive three-pointer to seal the hard-fought win.
Dominant Performance Seals Game
Even with registering nine sacks against Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following conceding a safety in the third quarter. Interestingly, the Jets could only produce a mere 82 offensive yards during the entire game.
Nix, who went 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, engineered a critical 12-play, 65-yard drive that ended with Lutz's 27-yard field goal with just over five minutes left.
Historic Difficulties for Jets Offense
Despite their horrendous offensive display, the Jets maintained possession with a chance to drive for a possible victory. But Fields was tackled on fourth down from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn chose to go for it instead of calling on kicker Nick Folk for a long field-goal attempt.
Fields struggled throughout, connecting on just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. The Jets ended up with negative ten passing yards, the fewest in any contest since 1998.
"The aerial attack was completely absent," Glenn stated following the game.
