The last Solheim Cup held on European soil took place in Spain last year, while the upcoming tournament scheduled for the Netherlands four years from now.

In the wake of the latest men's golf championship triumph, England Golf is pressing UK authorities to support their proposal to stage the Solheim Cup on English soil for the very first occasion.

This renowned competition pitting the leading female golfers of Europe and America has taken place twice in Scotland and in Wales but never in England. A bid has been assembled to stage it at The Grove in Hertfordshire eight years from now.

But coordinators require £30m to finance this proposal and at present only £10m has been secured. England Golf is urgently seeking Treasury support to cover the funding gap.

Discussions to acquire government support commenced earlier this year but a decision on whether support will be provided is time-sensitive. The hosting rights for the 2030 event are owned by IMG who want a resolution before month's end.

The executive refused to say that talks have stalled, but acknowledged: "Certainly there exists a dilemma presently regarding if the Treasury can support events like this."
